Ann Curry
Ann Curry is an American photographer and journalist who has been reporting for more than 45 years, focusing on people suffering from the aftermath of natural catastrophes and war zones. Curry was a reporter for the wars in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo, and Central African Republic. Ann Curry was an American journalist, TV news reporter and host best known for her work as a reporter on the Today program which is a morning-time broadcast newscast on NBC. Curry was known especially for her reporting about natural disasters as well as war devastated countries. Curry's mother was Japanese American and her U.S. Navy-sailor father both played a prominent role in Curry's life. Curry's parents were married in Japan which is where her father had been stationed since World War II. Her father served in the military and her family had to move around a lot. Curry graduated from high school in Ashland Oregon. Following her graduation from the University of Oregon, Curry received a bachelor degree in journalism degree in 1978. Her exposure to different cultures and experiences during her upbringing may have influenced her empathy approach to communicating about global issues. Curry could not be a student at a particular school in San Diego, Alameda Oregon or Virginia during the two-year period due to her family moved often. Ashland was her last high school. The broadcasting profession began with an internship with KTVL Channel 10 Medford in Oregon. at the age of 22 she became the first female journalist for the station. After that, she moved to reporting and anchoring at KGW the NBC affiliate station in Portland. After moving to Los Angeles, she became an anchor and reporter for KCBS TV within four years of moving into the city. She won two Emmy Awards during the six years she spent with this station.
